Is the SB-5000 Compatible with Older DSLRs?

Yes and no. Yes in the sense that an SB-5000 will perform exactly as the SB-910 did with older cameras. That means that you can use the SB-5000 to perform on camera and off-camera i-TTL, but only via line-of-sight infrared. To take advantage of the new six-channel radio-frequency i-TTL you need a D5 era camera (currently D5, D500, D850, and D7500), and then you can trigger the SB-5000 wirelessly with another SB-5000 on the camera, or using the WR-R10 wireless transmitter mounted on the camera.
