Note that Thom's Nikon books have gone through many transitions in three decades of producing them, and a number of the books have had multiple updates as Nikon updated firmware or new information was learned:
- pre-2001: available in paperback from Silver Pixel Press (Nikon Field Guide and Nikon Flash Guide can still be found on Amazon)
- 2001: available on a CD as a PDF eBook file with supplemental materials on the CD (no longer available)
- 2008: added short, printed reference guides that came with the ebook CD (no longer available)
- 2009: added a printed option for the ebook (no longer available)
- 2012: began making ebook-only versions available via instant download (still available)
- 2015: transitioned to PDF instant download only, and removed some older books from sale
- 2022: raised prices (after two-month warning) to cover increased costs
- 2026: simplified all purchasing onto one byThom Press site; changed download provider and some policies/pricing
