Versions of Nikon Software

Current primary Nikon software (downloadable from nikonimglib.com):

  • Nikon NX Studio 1.2.2 macOS/Windows (free). NX Studio is Nikon's all-in-one product, combining the features of Capture and View. Last updated October 2022.
  • Nikon Picture Control Utility version 2.4.12 macOS/Windows (free). Bundled with the above three products, this utility lets you modify Nikon’s Picture Controls and save those to be loaded on your camera. Last updated June 2022.
  • Nikon Camera Control Pro 2.35.1 macOS/Windows (US$180). Camera Control Pro allows for shooting tethered as well as interactively changing camera settings from a computer. Last updated October 2022.
  • Distortion Control Data version 2.018 macOS/Windows (free). The data tables for Nikkor lenses that is used to correct linear distortion, chromatic aberration, and vignetting. You may need the latest version for recent Nikkor lenses if you have an older camera. Last updated January 2020.
  • IPTC Preset Manager 1.2.0 (Windows only; Mac version deprecated). Also you to edit and manage your IPTC data files for the cameras that support IPTC entry in camera (D500, D4 series, D5, D6). Last updated January 2020.
  • Nikon Webcam Utility 1.0.1 (macOS) 1.0.1 (Windows) (free). Allows Nikon cameras to be used as Webcams with programs such as Zoom or OBS.

Note: Nikon now only supports macOS 10.14 thru 11 (Mojave, Catalina, Big Sur), and Windows 10. The good news is that Nikon has gotten a little better at keeping up with the latest OS releases. The bad news is that they're dropping support of earlier releases more aggressively. "Support" doesn't necessarily mean "Works On." It means that if there are any bugs or issues, Nikon won't address them on unsupported OS versions.

Other Nikon software:

  • Nikon SnapBridge (free) iOS 2.7.1, Android 2.7.1. The SnapBridge app is needed for the D6, D500, D780, D850, D3400, D3500, D5600, D7500, Z50, Z5, Z6, Z6II, Z7, and Z7 II to communicate with your smartphone via Bluetooth. Supports time lookup, GPS for camera, transfer of images from camera to smartphone, control of camera from smartphone, raw file transfers, tablets, and more. There’s also a separate SnapBridge 170/360 version for the KeyMission 170 and 360 cameras. Last updated July 2020.
  • Wireless Mobile Utility (WMU) (free) iOS 1.5.0, Android 1.5.0. The WMU app is the older version that used with cameras that had built-in or external Wi-Fi connectors (pre-SnapBridge cameras). Last updated December 2016.
