I took my Nikkor 10-24 in to the local Nikon distributor because it had fungus on the front element. The initial estimate for repair was 2 weeks.
However when I asked whether it was ready two weeks later, I was told that they had experienced a problem getting the spare part from Nikon global. However the rep who I spoke to offered me, without any prompting from my side,
(a) The use of a loan copy of the lens; and
(b) free return shipping for my lens when the repair was complete (worth about US$ 10).
I received the loaner a couple of days later, and my own lens was returned a few weeks after that, good as new. I feel they handled the situation well and am happy with the service I received. (ar)
